Cookie settings are more than a few switches
Your settings determine which technologies may start before consent, which scripts wait for a choice and how visitors can change their preferences later.
1. Classify technologies by purpose
Separate necessary, functional, analytics and marketing technologies based on what they actually do.
2. Block before consent
A visible banner is not enough if tracking has already loaded. Connect scripts and embeds to the correct consent category and test network requests in a clean browser profile.
3. Connect Consent Mode v2
When you use Google tags, set consent defaults before relevant tags run and update the state after the visitor’s choice. Verify the behaviour in Tag Assistant or GTM Preview.
4. Make preferences accessible again
Visitors should be able to revise an earlier choice. Provide a clear cookie settings link and make sure the new state is respected.
5. Keep the configuration current
New plugins, marketing tools and embeds can introduce new cookies and requests. Recheck consent after website changes.
